Awhile ago, I posted on my Instagram stories some podcasts that I regularly listen to. I’m a huge fan of podcasts, and listen to a decent amount while I’m commuting or throughout the day when I’m working on mundane tasks.
I thought it’d be fun to share my top five podcast recommendations on the blog! Note – these are in no particular order!
1. The Briefing – Al Mohler
I listen to The Briefing almost every morning, while I’m getting ready or on my commute. Mohler’s goal is to “provide a daily analysis of news and world events, from a Christian worldview”, and he does an excellent job. He walks his listeners through current events, but also highlights stories that don’t receive a lot of media attention. With each topic he tackles, he breaks down how Christians should think about it from a Biblical worldview, and why Christians should care about a particular issue.
I live and work in Washington, D.C., where I’m confronted with a million different world views every day, and aside from my daily Bible study, it’s one of the best ways to prepare me for the day ahead. Even if you don’t work in policy, I’d encourage you to listen. I believe Christians should be well informed and equipped to make thoughtful arguments for what we believe, and why.
Episode Length: 20 minutes
2. Home Row – J.A. Medders
If you’re a writer, or want to be a writer, this podcast is for you! In the words of creator and host, Jeff Medders, it’s a podcast “with writers, on writing.”
Jeff interviews everyone from Jen Wilkin and Karen Swallow Prior, to Matt Smethurst of The Gospel Coalition. Each episode feels like I’m eavesdropping on a conversation at a coffee shop between two friends that are discussing the craft and art of writing. It’s such a treat to learn from writers I deeply respect.
One of my favorite parts of this podcast is that it’s very practical. Jeff asks questions such as “What’s are your writing routines and rhythms?”, “Do you listen to music while you write?”, and “How do you make time to write?” And my favorite question of all, “What advice would you give to someone who wants to be a writer?” It’s a fabulous free resource for those that are seeking to grow as writers!
Episode Length: 45 – 60 minutes.
3. Journey Women – Hunter Beless
I stumbled upon the Journey Women podcast a few months ago, and have been a faithful listener ever since. Hunter’s vision for the podcast is as follows, “A journeywoman is seeking to glorify God each step of her journey. She’s asking things like, “How can I glorify God through opening my home? How can I glorify God by memorizing scripture? How can I glorify God using my gifts, like teaching, writing, or serving? How can I glorify God in my season of waiting, singleness, transition, depression, etc?”
It’s a deeply encouraging podcast, and I think it’s well worth your time!
Episode Length: 60 minutes
4. Help Me Teach the Bible – Nancy Guthrie
This was actually a recommendation from an Instagram friend! I immediately downloaded it and listened to multiple episodes. Nancy Guthrie is a highly respected Bible teacher, and I was thrilled when I learned she had a podcast. Each episode focuses on how to teach particular portions of Scripture well. She also has episodes such as “Teaching The Bible In A Secular Context” with Sam Allberry and “Applying the Bible to Public Policy Issues” with Jennifer Marshall
She teaches you not only how to think and teach certain books and sections of Scripture, but also how the Bible applies to all areas of life.
My favorite episode – Mark Futato on Teaching the Psalms
Episode Length: Approx. 60 minutes
5. The Way Home – Daniel Darling
I’ve been a faithful listener of Dan Darling’s podcast for awhile, and actually got to be on an episode of the podcast a few months ago. It was such a treat, because I’ve known Dan for a few years and being interviewed by someone a friend is so enjoyable. (Check out my episode here) Each episode of The Way Home feels like intimate and special conversation. Dan Darling asks all the questions you’d personally want to ask each guest on the subject they are addressing. (I hate it when I’m listening to a podcast, and the interviewer doesn’t ask good questions.)
I think you’ll enjoy the topics and conversations on this podcast!
Episode Length: 20 – 45 minutes

Cultivated – Mike Cosper
